About Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Club
Gedling & Sherwood Cricket Club is based at Regatta Way, Gamston, see map, where we relocated to in 2007. The Regatta Way facilities are shared with Wilsons Cricket Club & West Brigdford Colts Football club, although all 3 clubs have separate playing facilities. The Regatta Way complex was purpose built to re-house the clubs, as our previous facility, Coronation Ground, Wilford Lane, was redeveloped to house the Beckett School.
G&S CC took the opportunity the new facilities afforded to achieve the highest standard of 1st XI cricket the club had ever had, and also to launch the Gamston Cricket Academy, which has enjoyed enormous success.
The indoor facilities at Regatta Way means we are able to run a wide variety of Social Events throughout the year, which emphasises the friendly, social, feel to our club.
The range of cricket we offer, from the Academy, Senior Sides & Ladies Squad, means we are one of the most progressive clubs in the Notts region.
Gedling & Sherwood CC was formed in 2002, when Gedling Village and Sherwood & Wilford cricket clubs merged. Both clubs had been in existence for ten’s of years, but a decline in playing members and difficulties with grounds meant a merger between two clubs with a long friendship was the right decision.
G&S CC went from strength to strength, with the 1st XI establishing itself at the top end of the South Notts Village league, finally achieving promotion to Division A in 2007, after 5 years of finishing 3rd in Division B, just outside the promotion places.
Our 2nd XI has enjoyed a number of promotions and our goal remains to narrow the league gap between 1st’s and 2nd’s. We’re proud of the fact that we’re “one club” and that all our teams socialise with each other, which is often not the case in club cricket.
Our 3rd team, since being re-formed in 2009, has added another valuable component to our club, giving the opportunity for our youngsters to be exposed to senior league cricket.
G&S CC have recognised the need to generate our own talent pool, to identify the future 1st, 2nd & 3rd team players that will take our club forward. Our commitment to developing talent at all ages in the club, from the Academy onward, means we are in great shape for the future.
