Result - Under 15's v's West Indian Cavs

The Gedling and Sherwood U15s beat a very good West Indian Cavaliers side by 7 wkts last night, in a pulsating fixture at Birchover Park. The hosts batted first, on a cloudy evening but were contained well by some accurate
bowling by the opening pair Sami Chowdray and Tom Weslake. Chowdray was rewarded with a deserved wicket caught behind by Joe Dubas who performed very well as stand in keeper.

As the Cavaliers went up a gear it was Sobbi Ali and Tom Anderson who made the biggest impression with the ball and the former got his cousin out caught by Will Channel, which proved decisive. The Cavaliers reached 128 for
2 from 20 overs.

The Gedling and Sherwood opening batsmen, Abdullah Chowdray and Ashley Simons saw off the opening bowlers with the score at 40/2 off 10 overs. Well, at this point we needed something vey special. The moment Will
Channel blasted a four from his very first delivery, the run chase was on. Channel completely dominated the highly rated Cavaliers attack and with Tom Williams placing shots in the wide open spaces of the Cavs first team pitch,
the scoreboard motored along. A significant part of the run chase was the tremendous running between the wickets and on three occasions the G & S boys ran 4 runs.

Channel retired on 36 with a huge 6, hit as sweet as any that have been seen on the Bilborough strip. Dan Ditchfield joined the captain in the middle and also looked in great nick but one too many risky singles ended in his being run out. With a flee in his ear from the departing Ditchfield it was up to Williams and the inexperienced Weslake to chase down the remaining 26 runs from 5 overs, which they achieved with 1 over to spare.

A fantastic team performance and great entertainment, well done lads.
