Chairman's report 2009 Season

What a season we have had with the first team finishing a respectable 6th after we looked doomed to relegation a few weeks before the end of the season. It has been a massive boost to us that we are still in Division A and a big thank you to everyone involved in keeping us there. Overall all the teams have done well with the resources available particularly the third team who in their first season finished 7th out of 15 and this done mainly with our younger players. We have a great base for the future with the Academy which has been a massive success this season and under the guidance of Simon Smith, our Academy Director, along with many people giving their time on Sunday mornings to help out with the coaching etc. A big thank you also goes to the ladies who regularly attend these Sunday sessions and I am sure we will hear a lot more from them next year.

Jon Potter has done a marvelous job in collecting all the monies in as well as getting kit for the Academy. There are too many people to thank individually for all the time they have given but I must give special thanks to the Macmillan family because without them on a Sunday everyone would starve. Linda has done another magnificent job in preparing the teas every Saturday and often on a Sunday as well so a big thank you to her and all her helpers.

We have had a few problems this season with the original first team captain, Alex Norton, having to resign due to illness but he has played his part in coaching and even playing when we were short. Carl Blake and Kate Ross decided that their future was no longer with us and both left during the season and I must put on record our thanks particularly to Carl for all the work he put in to the club.

Another thank you to Mike Turner for all his unpaid umpiring which is really appreciated by all of us.

Once again ALL of your committee have done a tremendous amount of work often behind the scenes and it has been my pleasure to be involved with them in trying to make sure that we become one of the most prestigious clubs in Nottinghamshire.

Geoff Clay has once again ensured that we have had some great wickets to play on and we really do need to thank him for all the unpaid time and effort he puts in and thanks also to Pat Carmody for the help he has given to Geoff. Although we have had quite a bit of rain particularly in the evenings Pete Guest has again done really well in arranging the ground letting as well as being there most of the time and looking after the bar so thanks Pete.

John Gell has had his work cut out in keeping the finances in order and has also spent a lot of time in chasing up grants and sorting out coaching courses.

The cost of running the facility at Regatta Way is ever increasing and in order to survive on a sound footing we do need everyone to help in whatever they can to generate funds for YOUR club.

We have a great future in front of us particularly with the Academy going so well but we still need more quality players so please do your utmost to attract other players to the club.

We must also say a big big thank you to our sponsors and especially Nat West Bank, Hallmark Tapes and Beechdale Construction because without them this club would most certainly not be in the position we are today.

I am sure that I have missed out thanks to many people who have done lost for the club but I need everyone involved to know that I really do appreciate the work that everyone puts in but we now need to continue going forward and hopefully look forward to a very successful 2010.
