Chairman's report 2010 Season

We did not had a good season as far as results go – all of our Saturday teams were relegated and our Sunday team folded due to lack of players and interest. On the plus side our Academy has come on in leaps and bounds due to the tremendous amount of time and effort put in by Simon Smith our Academy Director and all of our coaches . There have been good attendances every Sunday and all of the coaches have done an excellent job in bringing on the youngsters. Our overseas player/coach Derek Bamber also made a great contribution to the coaching team. Derek and his girlfriend Dominique fitted in really well at the club and it has been a pleasure to have them here. The ladies team has also progressed well under Gerry Goodwins coaching . I cannot stress too much the importance of the work done at these coaching sessions and my thanks go to everyone involved including Jon Potter and Linda Macmillan without who we would not have any monies collected or breakfasts butties.

We have experienced many problems this year due to the lack of quality players for Division A. We have had good players leave over the last couple of seasons and unfortunately we have not been able to replace them and this has meant that the first team have struggled to both put out either a regular side or strong side and this in turn has affected both the second and third teams. This has caused many problems for the captains and this has led to different captains for both the first and second teams during the season. I thank all those who took on these duties but a particular thank you to Steve (Beefy) Carmody for taking over the first team and still carrying out his role as Social Secretary. Our overseas player Derek took a little while to get into things but made a bigger contribution as the season went on. Phil Wise has done a tremendous job with the third team and managed to get a team out for virtually the whole season and often with some of our Academy players. I know we have had a poor season but now is the time to regroup and go forward and try to stabilise the club and this will only be done if everyone pulls together .

Once again your committee has done a lot of work behind the scenes particularly Peter Guest for his unstinting work on letting out he pitch for evening fixtures, being on hand at most of these matches as well as running the bar. Peter brings in a lot of money to this club and deserves all the thanks we can give him. Many thanks to Geoff Clay and Pat Carmody have again worked tirelessly to keep our pitches among the best in Nottingham and without their unpaid time and effort we would be in a sorry state, Thanks also to Mike Turner for his unpaid time in turning up every week to umpire. John Gell has again had his work cut out in keeping the finances in order as well as chasing up grants and coaching courses etc.... and certainly deserves our thanks for all his efforts particularly with his busy job. Another big thanks got to Steph Blake for taking on and doing a marvellous job as the clubs Secretary. As you all probably know by now Steph has had her baby (a boy already signed on) and we give our congratulations to both Steph and Steve and wish them all the best for the future.

We will soon be holding our Annual General Meeting and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the night. There have not been too many social events this season and those we have had have not been as well attended as we would have hoped. It takes a great deal of money to run the facilities at Regatta Way and it is so important that any event we hold you give your fullest support too.

We must also give a very big thank you to our Sponsors particularly Westminster Bank, Hallmark Tapes and Beechdale Construction because without them this club would not survive for very long.

I am sure that there are many people I have missed thanking but I can assure you that all the work done by them is greatly appreciated by both myself and the Club.

I firmly believe that we as a Club can go forward , and I am confident that if we all pull together, try our best to get more players, we can at least consolidate our present league positions and hopefully go on to have a much better season in 2011. Peter Owen Chairman
