Chairman's Report for the 2013 Season

Well another season has come and gone and thankfully weather wise it was a much better year for us with hardly any matches called off. Unfortunately our results haven’t improved much and it looks as though both our 1st and 2ndteams will be relegated.

There has not been one week where the captains have been able to field the same side and there have been many weeks where without using some of our academy players we would really have struggled to raise a side.

Towards the end of the season we did manage to field more settled teams and it showed in the togetherness of the players and results.

The Sunday team had another reasonable season and thanks to Paul for all his efforts.

The Academy had another wonderful season with great results as shown in the league results. A big thankyou to all the coaches involved both on Sunday mornings and match days and their time and effort have resulted in the Academy being an absolute credit and joy to this club.

The ladies team have also had another good year although they have not played as many matches as they would have liked but they are also a huge credit to the club. Our thanks are also due to all the team captains for their tremendous work over this season particularly to Steve Carmody who has pretty well organised the first team most of the time.

My thanks AGAIN go out to Steph (I don’t know how she managed what with being pregnant for most of the time and looking after three other kids) and Caroline for all their great work over the season and I am sure youn will all agree with me when I say they are the best teas anywhere.

As usual there are so many people to thank and once again your committee have really worked hard again on your behalf and we as a club are fortunate to have such good people on the committee.

Geoff Clay and Pat Carmody have again worked their magic in keeping both squares in an excellent condition all season and I am very thankful for all the time and effort they put in.

Pete Guest (our well deserved Sportsperson of the Year) again spent most of the summer at the ground making sure that the pitches were used as much as possible thereby ensuring the Club again received very welcome income.

Again Mike Turner has given his time freely as an umpire and we all thank him for this.

I think your treasurer John Gell has had a better season with the finances and I thank him for all his time, effort and advise he brings to the club.

I have already mentioned the Academy but I do want you all to know how much time and effort the coaches give so that all our youngsters are coached really well and I know from comments made by other clubs that we are definitely on the right track and indeed the envy of many other teams. If I have missed anyone off the list of thankyous please accept my apologies.

We have again had problems with Wilsons Cricket Club and your committee decided enough was enough and advised Wilsons that we would no longer be letting out the facilities to them. We have now invited Lenton and Willoughby Cricket Club to be the main Club using the square each Saturday and we are sure they will bring a lot more to Gedling and Sherwood in the form of friendship and social events.

My thanks again go out to our sponsors who continue to support us on a regular basis. The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING will be held at the ground on Monday 13th January so please do your best to attend.
